At the age of three, Aldrich Potgieter’s grandmother dreamt of him playing golf in front of large crowds. The next day she advised his parents to buy him his first set of plastic golf clubs.

Now 20, Potgieter is in the midst of a remarkable rise through the golf ranks and returns to this year’s Nedbank Golf Challenge after coming close to winning it on his debut in 2024.

Potgieter was raised in both Mossel Bay and then later in Perth, Australia, where he won several amateur tournaments.

He returned to South Africa and claimed his greatest victory on the international amateur stage in The Amateur in 2022 at the age of 17, becoming the second youngest winner in the history of this prestigious title.

After turning professional in 2023, Potgieter became the youngest winner in Korn Ferry Tour history in 2024 when he claimed The Bahamas Great Abaco Classic at the age of 19 years, four months and 11 days.

In December 2024, upon personal invitation from Gary Player, Potgieter made his Nedbank Golf Challenge debut and led by three strokes going into the final round before finishing tied second.

And in June 2025, Potgieter’s career took another stellar turn when he became the youngest South African winner in PGA Tour history with his triumph in the Rocket Classic.

Armed with prodigious length off the tee, Potgieter is equally strong in his faith and family outside the ropes.

He and his father Hein will also often travel to golf tournaments with fishing rods in the back of the car, and love nothing better than to unwind by trying to catch a few bass in the dams of the golf courses the PGA Tour travels to.
