Francesco Molinari

“Playing golf in South Africa is like nowhere else in the world. Gary Player is a legend of golf and it is an honour to play in an event which carries his name.”

A place in the Nedbank Golf Challenge is just one of the highlights of 2025 for Molinari. The Italian was a vice-captain on Luke Donald’s European Team which claimed an historic away victory in the Ryder Cup in America this year.

It was yet another accolade for a man who is himself a part of European Ryder Cup folklore with his three appearances on three victorious European teams.

Since turning professional in 2004, Molinari has achieved incredible heights in the game, including becoming the first Italian winner of a Major when he triumphed at The Open in 2018. He ended that season as the winner of the DP World Tour’s Race to Dubai, again making history as the first Italian to achieve this.

Also in 2018, Molinari was a star performer for the European Ryder Cup team at Le Golf National when he became the first European to win all five games at a Ryder Cup.

The younger brother of fellow professional Edoardo was a decorated amateur who, aptly, made his breakthrough on the DP World Tour with a victory in the Italian Open.

Outside of his Major triumph, Molinari has a further five DP World Tour titles and two PGA TOUR victories, and he reached a career-high world ranking of fifth.

Molinari has a top finish of tied 12th in the 2013 Nedbank Golf Challenge.

He is fluent in three languages, namely Italian, Spanish and Englis and is an accomplished snowboarder.
