Garrick Higgo

“I feel like a completely different person and golfer.”

Higgo heads to Sun City with fond memories of a Gary Player Country Club course where he claimed his first Sunshine Tour title in 2019.

The 26-year-old broke through with victory in the Sun City Challenge that year, and what followed was a run of wins that confirmed him as one of the most exciting new players in the game.

In 2020 Higgo won his first title on the DP World Tour in the Open de Portugal and added another victory on the Sunshine Tour in The Tour Championship. The latter earned him the Fortress Rookie of the Year award that season.

Then in 2021 he raised his game another level with a further two titles on the DP World Tour and a breakthrough win on the PGA TOUR in the Palmetto Championship.

This year he added to his PGA TOUR tally with victory in the Corales Puntacana Championship, bouncing back from a wrist injury that plagued him for almost two years.

It’s been an incredible journey for a player who has reached as high as 38th on the Official World Golf Ranking, represented South Africa at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, and who has worked tirelessly to make his dream a reality despite several obstacles such as dealing with the loss of his father at a young age.

He returns to Sun City as a very different golfer to the one who won here in 2019, having remodelled his swing under the eye of renowned coach Sean Foley in a search for more consistency with his irons in particular. And with a longer hairstyle which he’s determined not to cut.
