“The last few years, playing on the DP World Tour and being able to experience different kinds of courses, has helped my game a lot.”

Li will make his sixth appearance in the Nedbank Golf Challenge, and returns to Sun City after coming close to making history in the game this year.

The Chinese star very nearly became the first male golfer from his country to win The Open when he challenged for the title at Royal Portrush this year before finishing tied fourth after going into the final round just four shots adrift of world number one Scottie Scheffler.

It was his second top-five finish in a Major following his third place at The Open in 2017.

Li has a strong record in the Nedbank Golf Challenge, with top finishes of fourth and fifth and 2017 and 2018.

There seemed an element of destiny to Li’s career when he won his national Open – the Volvo China Open – for his first DP World Tour victory in 2016 at the age of 20.

A year later he outduelled Rory McIlroy to win the Omega Dubai Desert Classic with a then tournament record of 23 under par.

This year he claimed his fourth DP World Tour title in the Commercial Bank Qatar Masters.

Li has blazed a trail for Chinese golf as he’s represented his country in The Olympic Games and Presidents Cup, and climbed as high as 32nd on the Official World golf Ranking.
