“I feel like I belong out here now.”
Schaper will make his debut in the Nedbank Golf Challenge as one of the rising stars of South African professional golf.
The former Fortress Rookie of the Year on the Sunshine Tour is now establishing himself on the DP World Tour and has had nine top-10s there this year.
He is showing every bit of the promise he did as GolfRSA’s top-ranked amateur where he claimed a host of victories including the prestigious Junior Players Championship and the “Grand Slam” of South African junior golf – the Nomads SA Boys Under-13, Under-15, Under-17 and Under-19 titles, and the South African stroke play and match play titles.
But his true potential was on display when, in January 2020, he stunned the field in the South African Open when he challenged for the title and eventually finished tied sixth behind Branden Grace.
Schaper also finished tied second in the Alfred Dunhill Championship that year.
Before golf, Schaper had aspirations of becoming a footballer and was a talented right wing. Today he remains a passionate Arsenal fan.
