“I have good vibes out here. The atmosphere is fantastic.”
Thomas Detry returns to Sun City for his fifth Nedbank Golf Challenge and as a first-
time winner on the PGA TOUR this year after his victory in February’s WM Phoenix
Open.
Detry has a strong record in the Nedbank Golf Challenge, having finished in the top
15 of three of his four appearances at the Gary Player Country Club.
His best finish in “Africa’s Major” was tied third in 2019.
The Belgian professional enjoyed a glittering amateur career in which he played in
the Junior Ryder Cup and also made three appearances in the Eisenhower Trophy.
After turning professional in 2016, Detry won the Bridgestone Challenge on the
HotelPlanner Tour that year by a record 12 strokes and at 29 under par, beating
none other than South Africa’s Thriston Lawrence into second place.
In 2024 he achieved his highest finish in the Majors of tied fourth in the PGA
Championship.
Then in 2025 he became the first Belgian to win on the PGA TOUR.
It all confirmed the potential of a golfer who first picked up a club at the age of five
and played a range of sports including tennis and field hockey before focusing solely
on golf in his early teens.
For the past two years Detry has incorporated meditation into his training and credits
this as a major part of his mental focus and success.
