Thomas Detry

The Belgian professional enjoyed a glittering amateur career in which he played in the Junior Ryder Cup and also made three appearances in the Eisenhower Trophy.

He turned professional in 2016 and signalled his potential on the European Challenge Tour when he made every single cut and claimed a victory in the Bridgestone Challenge. His 12-stroke victory was a Challenge Tour record, surpassing the previous record of 10 strokes set by future Major champion Brooks Koepka.

Detry heads to Sun City having achieved his best-ever finish in a Major this year of tied fourth in the US PGA Championship.

After first picking up a golf club at the age of five, Detry played a range of sports including tennis and field hockey before focusing solely on golf in his early teens.

He has good memories of South Africa, having made his DP World Tour debut in the 2017 Alfred Dunhill Championship where he finished third.

And he has equally fond memories of ‘Africa’s Major’, having finished seventh in 2018 and tied third in 2019, and tied 13th in 2022.
