Thorbjørn Olesen

“Every week is an opportunity.”

Denmark’s Thorbjørn Olesen will make his sixth appearance in the Nedbank Golf Challenge in honour of Gary Player, and as a player with an impressive record at the Gary Player Country Club over the past two years.

Olesen finished third in 2023 and fifth in 2024. He heads back to Sun City looking to become only the second Dane after Thomas Bjørn to ever win the Nedbank Golf Challenge.

After turning professional in 2008, Olesen made his DP World Tour breakthrough with his victory in the 2012 Sicilian Open. He has gone on to win eight times on the DP World Tour, the last of which was in 2024.

Olesen earned himself a place on the victorious European Ryder Cup team in 2018 and impressed with his 5&4 victory over Jordan Spieth in the Sunday Singles.

His top finishes in the Majors include tied ninth in The Open in 2012 and tied sixth in the 2013 Masters.

After initially being dissuaded by his mother to turn professional as she wanted him to first compete his education, Olesen has taken the golf world by storm – true to the Danish translation of his name which means “Thunder Bear”.

He is a great fan of musicals and Manchester United.
