“I cannot wait to make my debut in a tournament that I also grew up watching and wanting to compete in one day.”
South Africa’s Yurav Premlall was blown away when he received a personal invitation from Gary Player to compete in this year’s Nedbank Golf Challenge.
The 22-year-old Premall will make his debut in “Africa’s Major” courtesy of the invitation from the Grand Slam legend.
And it will bring him back to a Gary Player Country Club course where he has fond memories and has enjoyed success.
In 2021 Premlall lifted the Freddie Tait Cup as the leading amateur in his national Open when it was played at Sun City.
That same year, the former GolfRSA number one claimed the Nedbank Junior Challenge at the Gary Player Country Club.
He now returns to Sun City as a rising professional who won his maiden Sunshine Tour title in 2024.
Premlall has his father to thank for introducing him to the game at the age of two. When the family moved from Durban to Gauteng, Premlall says golf and the almost daily trips to the driving range helped him to cope with missing his extended family and friends.
As a young amateur he once admitted a lob wedge would be one of the things he’d like to have with him if ever stranded on an island.
